Rajasthan: Fear grips administrative officials due to the slap incident and statements from political leaders, a major demand has been made to the CM.
Rajasthan: During the by-election voting on November 13 in Deoli-Uniyara, independent candidate Naresh Meena slapped the SDM. This incident has now sparked political controversy.
Rajasthan: Following the SDM slap incident, ‘slap politics’ has erupted in the state, with political leaders now targeting Rajasthan’s administrative officials. Statements from various leaders calling for slapping officers are emerging one after another. In response to the growing discontent among officials, senior BJP leaders in Rajasthan have condemned these remarks.
Political leaders are directing their criticism at administrative officials.
The controversy began after independent candidate Naresh Meena slapped SDM Amit Chaudhary in Samrawata during the November 13 by-election for the Deoli-Uniara seat in Rajasthan. Since then, a series of statements targeting administrative officials have surfaced, with leaders making remarks about slapping them one after another.
Beniwal stated, “Had I been present, I would have slapped three or four additional people.”
Naresh Meena, after slapping the SDM, defended his action by claiming that the officer was acting as a BJP agent, and stated that he had no regrets about the incident. Meanwhile, RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal commented, “What Naresh Meena did, I couldn’t. In Rajasthan, it’s not just independent or regional party leaders, but even Congress leaders—who are part of the national party—are adopting a harsh tone towards administrative officials. Congress National Secretary Dheeraj Gurjar also remarked that if the administrative officers don’t perform their duties, he’s willing to put their shoes on himself.”
BJP state president Madan Rathod denounced the statement.
In response to the growing dissatisfaction within the bureaucracy, BJP state president Madan Rathod felt the need to speak out against the statements. He warned that if such attitudes prevail, Rajasthan could face a situation of lawlessness rather than the rule of law. Rathod urged the public to make a choice about which side they stand with.
RAS officers have decided to end their pen-down strike.
In the wake of the Naresh Meena slap incident, Rajasthan’s RAS officers have called off their pen-down strike following intervention from Chief Minister Bhajan Sharma. However, such remarks continue to fuel anger and concern among administrative officials, who worry about their safety. As a result, the Rajasthan State Administrative Officers (RSA) lobby is now urging the government to implement an Officer Protection Act. The recent emergence of what is being termed as “slap politics” in Rajasthan—traditionally known for more intense political dynamics—raises questions about the direction this situation may take in the future.
